BLEND NAME

Because this blend's beans originate primarily from Brazil, we named it Ouro Preto (Portuguese for “Black Gold”), in honor of a beautiful city located in the southeastern side of the country.

Founded in the early 18th century, Ouro Preto operated as an important gold mining center for the Portuguese empire. The economic success of the area attracted European intellectuals and creative minds. Thus, Baroque Art blossomed here, strongly influencing the city’s architecture and philosophy.

Today, the well-preserved buildings and landmarks offer an immersive experience into that long-gone era. Winding cobbled streets lead visitors through hilly narrow passageways and colonial buildings of great historic relevance.

The city, now part of UNESCO’s World Heritage, continues to play an important role as a center for education and arts. It houses the Federal University of Ouro Preto which excels in studies of public law, arts, humanities, science, and technology.
