The eastern highlands, generally referred to as El Oriente, link Guatemala with Honduras and El Salvador. The landscape is much different from its western counterpart. Stunted peaks and weathered volcanoes are some clear distinctions.

Because this sector used to be an active volcanic mountain range, the ground is made up of metamorphic rock. The soil is rich in minerals, crucial for growing healthy crops. What used to be one of the most underdeveloped regions of the country is steadily becoming an agricultural powerhouse.

Nowadays, high, and consistent quality are proof of the amazing work these farmers are doing. They truly are giving El Oriente a new, or Nuevo, beginning.
