Ethiopia is considered the birthplace of coffee. The legend goes that a shepherd named Kaldi found his goats energized after eating the fruits of a certain tree. When he tasted it, he too felt full of life and started singing and writing poetry. Little did he know that he had just discovered coffee. Although this story is just a myth, we do know for certain that coffee has been grown and enjoyed in Ethiopia for many centuries.

Among the many coffee growing areas of the country, the beans from the Yirgacheffe region, in the Gedeo Zone, are some of the best in the world. Here coffee is cultivated at high elevation (5,500 – 7,000 feet above sea level) on family owned farms and carefully handpicked. Yirgacheffe coffee tends to have a light to medium body and exhibits strong floral notes. However, some of the most unique varieties, such as our Yirgacheffe Natural, have strong hints of dark berries.
